Heisman Frontrunner Travis Hunter Surprisingly Signs Endorsement Deal with adidas
PublishedQuick Facts
- The leading candidate for this year's Heisman Trophy, Travis Hunter, has signed an endorsement deal with adidas
- The move comes as a surprise as his coach, Deion Sanders, and his school, the University of Colorado, are both sponsored by Nike
- Throughout his time with the Colorado Buffaloes, he has been wearing Nike gear on and off the field
- Details about the deal have not been made public
Throughout his historic season under head coach and Nike-sponsored athlete Deion Sanders, Travis Hunter has taken the field in various Nike cleats, from Sanders’ own Nike DT Max ‘96 cleats to LeBron 4 cleats. However, even with this deep connection to The Swoosh through the coaching staff and the Colorado Buffaloes themselves, who Nike also sponsors, Hunter has signed an endorsement deal with adidas.
The two-way star, who plays both on offense and defense (wide receiver and cornerback, respectively), announced his signing just two days before the Heisman Trophy ceremony takes place and joins an elite roster of NFL and NCAA talent under The Three Stripes that includes Patrick Mahomes, Cam Ward, Tua Tagovailoa, Micha Parsons, and many more.
Aaron Seabron, General Manager, US Sports & Creation Center Portland at adidas, said in a statement, “As part of our continued investment in the next generation of athletes, we’re proud to partner with someone whose passion for sport and drive to create impact on and off the field mirrors our own. Travis is undeniably one of the most dynamic athletes in any sport, and we’re excited to collaborate with him and celebrate all that he accomplishes as he transitions into the next phase of what promises to be a long and successful career.”
Details around the deal have not been made public, and it’s unknown if the future holds a Travis Hunter signature sneaker from The Three Stripes. However, if Hunter breaks through and remains the superstar he is in his NFL career, we will likely see adidas craft a model for the two-way player.
In an interview with Complex, Travis detailed that the adidas AE 1, Anthony Edwards’ signature performance basketball sneaker, is his favorite adidas model of all time. He also clarified that he chose to sign with The Three Stripes over Nike as adidas was “Definitely a family-oriented organization,” continuing, “They always kept everybody close. They never hid nothing from me and the more conversations that I have made me feel more like home.”
In what will be his final game for Colorado, Travis will not be taking the field in Three Stripes sneakers, as the Buffs have an endorsement deal with Nike. However, off the field and when he becomes an NFL athlete, expect to see Travis decked out in adidas gear.
