Devin Booker’s signature sneaker with Nike has almost been on the market for a year. During its first year, the performance basketball model has made multiple visits to NCAA programs through exclusive PE colorways. Booker was spotted rocking pairs made for USC and Michigan State, but his Kentucky Wildcats had been left dry… until now. During a press conference last night, Kentucky’s men’s basketball coach, Mark Pope, took the shoes off his feet and broke down the inspiration and details on the Wildcats’ player-exclusive Nike Book 1.
As with other NCAA PE colorways, this Book 1 comes with a nubuck and canvas twill construction. Most of the sneaker takes on a Kentucky blue hue, as seen on the paneling from the toe back to the midfoot, collar, and heel. Secondary shades for the University of Kentucky are found on select portions, including light blue piping for the white leather Swoosh, light blue embroidery for the mini Swoosh near the toe, and white accents on the tongue tag. Here, branding is split between the school’s record in 1996, 34-2, and Booker’s standard Book logo on the left and right shoe, respectively. Continuing to nod to the team’s 1996 season, the school’s logo from this year is added to the lateral heel and the insole. Finishing the design is the white rubber midsole paired with a tonal blue rubber outsole.
Unfortunately, the Nike Book 1 Kentucky Wildcats PE will not be available for the public to purchase. Instead, the pair will remain exclusive to Devin Booker and Kentucky Wildcats basketball team players.
