The gates have opened at various stadiums nationwide as the 2024 MLB season swings into action. With this being one of the biggest days of the year for baseball, players are going all-out to celebrate the start of a new season. For Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of the Toronto Blue Jays, this Opening Day against the Tampa Bay Rays, the superstar slugger will unveil custom Jordan 1 Mid cleats inspired by the highly sought-after Off-White x Nike Air Force 1 MCA. Alongside Guerrero’s custom cleats, Fernando Tatis Jr. also has a special pair on the diamond for Opening Day.
Designed by Nick Drbal of XAMPLE and crafted by Stadium Custom Kicks, the cleats are a nod to the groundbreaking work of the late Virgil Abloh and his Off-White label. Like the AF1 this cleat mimics, the pair is covered in a university blue tumbled leather with metallic silver Swooshes popping on the midfoot. A red “tag” is attached to the end of the Swoosh, a trademark of Abloh’s work with Nike. The left cleat is decorated with "VLADDY," Guerrero Jr.'s affectionate nickname, adding a personal touch to the pair. In contrast, the right cleat carries the word "PLAKATA," a Dominican word that is said when making solid contact with the ball. Furthermore, Guerrero's logo and a Spanish biblical quote, "SALMO:121," which translates to "I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help," add a layer of personal belief and inspiration to the design.
This season, Guerrero Jr. plans to showcase a series of custom cleats, all designed by Nick Drbal, CEO & Founder of XAMPLE, and crafted by Stadium Custom Kicks. Each pair is set to tell a story, reflect personal milestones, or pay homage to influential figures or moments in Guerrero Jr.'s life and career.
