Earlier in the month of January, Donovan Mitchell put on a video game-like performance against the Chicago Bulls when the adidas-affiliated athlete dropped a whopping 71 points. Aside from the $71 sale The Three Stripes held for all adidas D.O.N. Issue 4 colorways, the German sportswear brand was working behind the scenes with Microsoft to combine the performance basketball silhouette with the tech giant’s infamous gaming system - the Xbox.
Coming dressed in stealthy black shades like the latest Xbox Series X, accenting hits of grey take over the mesh upper while branding details receive colorful makeovers in red, blue, yellow, and green. Three Stripes branding located next to the TPU mudguard is seen in red on the right pair and blue on the left, further accenting the black TPU eyestays and lace set nearby. Working up to the top of the tongue, the right sneaker houses Donovan Mitchell’s spider logo in yellow while the Xbox logo appears in green on the left pair. Working back to the heel, the leather overlay houses “RT” and “LT” branding alongside “Xbox” text, referencing the right and left triggers found on an Xbox controller. Rounding out the design is the gradient midsole that transitions from black to grey as you work from heel to toe and a semi-translucent icy blue and grey rubber outsole.
The Xbox x adidas D.O.N. Issue 4 is slated to release in 2023 through adidas and select Three Stripes retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is currently TBA.
