2024 reintroduced us to the New Balance 1000, an archival silhouette born in 1999 that fell to the wayside and was almost forgotten in history. Since this successful revival, multiple collaborations have landed on the sneaker, including from Aime Leon Dore, Kith, Joe Freshgoods, and thisisneverthat, with more to come in 2025. Adding to the list of partners working on the sneaker is atmos, as Creative Director Hirofumi Kojima has teased the Japanese retailer’s version of the NB 1000.
Though we only have images of the heel and a close-up of the tongue and insole, we can get a pretty good idea of what atmos has cooked up based on these teasers and Kojima’s Instagram caption. He called the pair “Bāṅdhnū,” which, when translated directly from Nepali, means “to tie” or “to bind.” However, the word in Hindi, spelled “Bāndhnā,” is more directly related to the English word “Bandana,” which is the theme based on the paisley print pattern applied to the canvas base.

White and grey hues form this pattern, with the design likely covering the entire canvas base of the sneaker, as it is also visible on the tongue, insole, and portions of the internal heel counter. Aside from this, we see black suede covering the overlays of the upper and white New Balance branding on the tongue tag. Finishing the sneaker is the black Abzorb-cushioned midsole and outsole.
The atmos x New Balance 1000 Bāṅdhnū will release sometime in 2025 through atmos online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price has yet to be announced.
