Collaborations between Concepts and New Balance have slowed significantly in the last few years, though 2024 was a return to form for the Boston duo. We were blessed with projects, like the return of the 998 C-Note in 2023, the 1906U and a new 740 at the end of 2024, and another 740 at the start of 2025. Deon Point, the creative director of Concepts, has just teased us with a look at the upcoming Concepts x New Balance 1000.
Based on the image he posted, there are a few different model variants. However, many of these are samples, as Point previously unveiled the Concepts x New Balance 1906U Hours and Days in a similar image that displayed sample versions of the sneaker. Continuing the theme from the C-Note 998, inspiration for this 1000 appears to be dollar bills as not only are the green hues used on the pair also found on US dollars, but slides on his Instagram post showcase a “1000 dollar” bill.
The font used for the 1000 text on the lateral toe, tongue, and heel is similar to that found in US currency, contrasting the upper with its bright pink finish. Inside, a custom currency-inspired graphic is present on the insole. Finishing the sneaker is the Abzorb-cushioned foam midsole in white with contrasting colors on select portions and a black rubber outsole.
Outside of the obvious money motifs, Deon's post also points to its inspiration coming from the Irish culture of Boston. This is directly referenced in the caption, which reads, "I heard you paint houses," a nod to the Martin Scorcese film The Irishman and the book that it's based on. Alongside this caption, the post is full of photos of celebrities wearing Celtics and other Irish-themed outfits.
The Concepts x New Balance 1000 will release March 14, 2025, through Concepts online and in-store. A release via New Balance will take place on March 21, 2025.
