To celebrate the brand’s 100th birthday in 2006, New Balance introduced a new iteration to its 99X and Made in USA lineup with the 992. It was an immediate hit, and most famously, Steve Jobs was spotted rocking the classic Grey colorway of the 992 during Apple press events and in his day-to-day life in the mid to late 2000s. Now, New Balance is bringing back the sneaker in all its grey glory.
Preceding the release of this “core” colorway and the other core colors such as Navy, Black, Triple Black, and Nimbus Cloud, New Balance tapped Joe Freshgoods to launch an aged version of his original 992 collaboration from 2020. Kith and Action Bronson are also expected to release their sneaker versions. As for this Grey iteration, things remain identical to the original pair from 2006, as we see premium materials and a greyscale palette coat the sneaker.

Pigskin suede in light grey is found on the mudguard, midfoot panel, eyestays, and heel overlay, while the mesh base takes on a silver-grey finish. Darker grey hues land on the leather paneling on the toebox, collar, heel tab, and tongue. These greyscale hues are broken up by white on the lace set, New Balance logos on the tongue, and the outline of the silver N logo on the midfoot. Finishing the sneaker is the cream and white Abzorb-cushioned midsole paired with a black rubber outsole.
The New Balance 992 Made in USA Grey was released on March 7, 2025, through New Balance online. Available in unisex sizing, the retail price is set at $200. The pair has limited sizes available on New Balance’s website, though as a “core” colorway, expect it to restock consistently throughout the year.
