Dating back to 1982, with the introduction of the New Balance 990, the 99X series has since expanded to include 15 different variants. The latest upgrade to the standard 990, the 990v6, first emerged at the end of 2022 and has since become an integral part of the Made in USA series launch calendar, appearing in various inline and collaborative versions. Following an official look at the Sunrise Rose colorway, the sneaker appeared in a new Black Grey makeup.
While the thought of a black and grey New Balance 990v6 seems normal, this pair is anything but. For starters, the upper features patent leather overlays in black along the toe and midfoot, marking a first for the v6. Branding details are also changed, with the lateral collar removing the 990 stamp and the tongue tag changing the New Balance font into a retro 8-bit-inspired text.

As for the rest of the shoe, light grey pigskin suede hits the mudguard, midfoot, and heel overlays, while black mesh makes up the base and the tongue. More black is found on the suede eyelets, the cotton lace set, and the TPU N logo, the latter outlined in white. Finishing details on the upper include the Made in USA branding on the heel and the white sockliner. The black and grey FuelCell-cushioned midsole and the semi-translucent black rubber outsole finish the design below.
The New Balance 990v6 Made in USA Black Grey will release in June 2025 through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is $200.
