One of New Balance’s most viral and polarizing releases from 2024 has to be its 1906L, a loafer version of the ever-popular 1906R mesh runner. After its initial colorway sold out, and subsequent releases like the Silver Metallic Black, Magnet, and Rich Oak also flew off shelves, we’ve been given previews of new pairs NB has in store for 2025. NB is giving the sneaker a Black Croc makeover alongside the upcoming Red Croc and Pink colors.
Like its Red Croc cousin, this version of the 1906L Loafer coats the sneaker in a monochromatic shade across its patent leather upper. Here, we see a faux croc print applied to the leather paneling, harkening back to traditional high-fashion takes on the loafer silhouette. Even with this elevated material choice, we still see the overlays on a standard pair of 1906Rs around the mudguard, midfoot, and heel.

For branding, New Balance removes the large N logo on the midfoot, instead reserving the N logo from a small embroidered logo on the toe below the forefoot strap. 1906L logos grace the lateral heel and insole, the latter featured in the center of a black, red, and white New Balance logo. Finishing the sneaker is a black foam midsole, directly borrowed from the 1906R silhouette, and a black rubber outsole.
The New Balance 1906L Loafer Black Croc will release in 2025 through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. Available in unisex sizing, the retail price has yet to be confirmed.
