New Balance’s entry into formalwear came as a surprise to many, although it seems it may have sparked a trend in the fashion and footwear world. In September last year, the ever-popular 1906R mesh runner was transformed into a low-top loafer, mixing the traditional footwear design with the techy tooling of the NB silhouette. Each launch since the original has been an instant sellout, and on top of the upcoming pairs like the Pink colorway, we have an early look at a pair previously previewed by Joe Freshgoods.
Original pairs of the 1906L still retained the mesh and synthetic leather overlays found on the 1906R, though we did get a few suede variants like the Rcih Oak and Black Suede colorways. Here, the model comes in an even more traditional look as patent Croc leather is applied to the entire upper. Each panel, including the base layer, overlays, tongue, and forefoot strap, is covered in a deep burgundy-red hue.

The TPU heel counter slightly contrasts, with the lattice structure taking on a different shade of red. The 1906L logo on the lateral heel has pops of black, while the insole has a white finish with black, red, and white branding details. The black foam midsole, identical to the standard 1906R, and a matching rubber outsole complete the design.
The New Balance 1906L Loafer Red Croc will release in 2025 through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Available in unisex sizing, the retail price has not been confirmed, though other pairs retail for around $160.
