While digging from the vault has proven successful for New Balance, it’s been a bit since they’ve introduced us to an all-new sneaker design. We know the brand can whip up retro-inspired sneakers that become massive hits, as seen with the 9060, and they’ve again harkened back to the Y2K era with the New Balance 2000.
Decidedly different from the archival New Balance 2000, which, after digging online, appears to be a performance runner from the early 2010s, this new reinvented New Balance 2000 leans into the lifestyle category. An explosion of 2000s running sneaker DNA is present here, yielding a brand-new design language that transcends NB’s heritage. Wavy and free-flowing overlays fused atop the mesh base wrap around the toe and portions of the midfoot and heel, while a large N logo marks the lateral side.

For this colorway, we see NB apply a variety of blue hues on the mesh panels and fused overlays, many of which come outlined in cream-white hues to match the tongue, laces set, heel tab, and sockliner. Though not visible in these on-foot photos provided by Coeio, a Brazilian artist, expect to see NB logos on the heel, insole, and along the tongue. Down below, the Abzorb-cushioned midsole draws comparisons to Nike Shox technology with its pillar-esque design and comes paired with a wavy, organically-inspired rubber outsole.
In addition to the pictured Baby Blue colorway, the New Balance 2000 will debut in various colors throughout 2025. Expect a release sometime in the early parts of the year through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store.
