The Nike Air Presto released in 2000, however, a team of designers Tobie Hatfield, Kevin Hoffer, and Mervar started working on the silhouette in 1996. Hatfield sought out to modify performance running collars as they would collapse over time, leading to the creation of the V-Notch, a relaxed collar that would stretch to the consumer’s foot. Nike accepted naming suggestions from over 300 employees and landed on “Presto Magic”. The Presto’s midsole features five dots in reference to its Nike Alpha Program roots.
