Josué Thomas’ Gallery Dept. label has continued to lean into the world of footwear collaborations, recently helping Asics launch an all-new silhouette that Thomas had a hand in designing — the Gel-K1011. Outside of the frequent Asics projects, the brand has also worked with Vans on multiple occasions, including in 2023 on the Old Skool and a pack of Vans Rowley XLT colorways. Josué is now back with the legendary skate brand, working on a paint splatter colorway of the Vans Authentic.
Unlike the previous Gallery Dept. x Vans projects, this one remains relatively calm in terms of its initial design. The pair utilizes a cream canvas upper that extends across the entire upper, including the tongue and the sockliner, while stark white shades grace the TPU eyelets and lace set. Outside of the yellow Vans tag attached near the toe, the upper is devoid of any branding. However, Gallery Dept.’s signature paint splatter, which has been seen on other footwear projects, takes over the toebox in a multi-color finish.

Underfoot, the midsole comes pre-aged and distressed, containing Gallery Dept.’s “Art That Kills” logo in red across the sidewall of the rubber. More nods to the fashion label are found on the insole thanks to co-branded logos, while the heel spoiler comes with Vans OTW branding. Finishing the design is the gum rubber outsole.
The Gallery Dept. x Vans Authentic Splatter Paint releases March 27, 2025, through Gallery Dept., Vans, and select retailers online and in-store. Available in unisex sizing, the retail price is set at $150.
