In 2022, adidas revived the adidas Crazy 1, the once-signature sneaker of Kobe Bryant. After a hiatus, this return marked the resurgence of a cult classic in the world of basketball sneakers. Fast forward to 2024, and adidas continues to expand the Crazy 1's legacy with new colorways, capturing the attention of long-time fans and new sneaker enthusiasts. The latest addition to this lineup is the adidas Crazy 1 Laney, following up on the reveal of the Ivory Purple pair.
The adidas Crazy 1 Laney is not officially an homage to Michael Jordan's Laney High School or Travis Scott's Elkins High. Still, its color scheme of white, royal blue, and yellow unmistakably evokes the spirit of those institutions. The synthetic upper is coated in a crisp white, setting a clean and sleek canvas for the vibrant accents to stand out. Blue hues, symbolic of the Laney colorway, grace the tongue, collar, and heel tab, adding depth and a dynamic element to the overall design.
Yellow accents are strategically placed, highlighting the rubber toe cap, the iconic "tail light" on the heel, and the adidas branding on the tongue, infusing energy into the shoe. These yellow touches also extend to parts of the midsole, further enhancing the sneaker's eye-catching appeal. Functionality is not compromised, as the shoe features a white EVA foam-cushioned midsole, ensuring comfort and performance on the court. The design is completed with a blue rubber outsole.
The adidas Crazy 1 Laney will release in 2024 through adidas and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $150.
