adidas continues to honor Kobe Bryant's legacy with The Brand With The Three Stripes by releasing models from his line, such as the Crazy 8. One of the most popular adidas x Kobe silhouettes, the former KB 8 is set to arrive in an all-new Lakers theme just in time for the upcoming 2024-25 NBA season.
In 1996, adidas licensed the Feet You Wear (FYW) technology from inventor Frampton Ellis, revolutionizing their footwear designs. With the notion of removing the right angles and the sharp contours in footwear, the technology mimicked the natural motion and shape of the foot. This design strategy led to curved edges and a more rounded sole that provides better stability and balance. This simple innovation allowed adidas to create performance shoes that offered superior comfort and enhanced foot control, along with helping avoid injuries, and this led to making them popular among athletes, particularly NFL and NBA players.
The Number 1 pick in the 1996 NFL Draft, Keyshawn Johnson, featured heavily in the adidas marketing campaign, and a young NBA sensation drafted straight from high school, Kobe Bryant. The Black Mamba quickly became one of the biggest superstars in sports, and in just his second season in the NBA, Kobe Bryant had a signature sneaker with adidas, now known as the Crazy 8.
The adidas Crazy 8 Lakers Core White is presented in a clean-looking aesthetic. The chunky upper consists of multiple layers of leather that contrast in core white and off-white hues that subtly blend. But the use of the Lakers colors, with hits of purple and gold seen on detailing, really pops on the neutral backdrop. The embroidered tongue label and branding throughout further the Lakers theme. Underfoot, the wide, core white foam midsole seamlessly blends with the off-white rubber outsole and has a black tooling finish underneath.
The adidas Crazy 8 Lakers Core White was released today, October 1, 2024, through adidas and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men's sizing, retail is set at $140.
