The first signature sneaker of the late, great Kobe Bryant, the adidas Crazy 8, was initially released as a high-top sneaker until earlier this year when adidas partnered with community basketball association Hoop York City. Since then, a collection that pays homage to five HBCUs has dropped. Up next, a 30 Point Game iteration is set to be the first inline launch of the sneaker in its low-cut form.
Featuring Feet You Wear technology, the numerous curves and rounded outsole immediately made the silhouette stand out, and it quickly gained a cult following when the high-top version was first launched by adidas in 1997 to wide acclaim. Unfortunately, the relationship between Kobe and The Brand With The Three Stripes soured, and in 2002 when Bryant left to sign a massive deal with Nike, adidas was obligated to rename the shoe. The Crazy 8 moniker was born when they first reissued the model in 2007.
The Crazy 8 Low appears in the original KB-8/Crazy 8 30 Point Game colorway of cloud white, core black, and collegiate purple, last seen in November 2023. With multiple layers of cloud white leather, hits of underlying patent black leather are seen along the medial and lateral, taking the place of Three Stripes branding at the midfoot. The tongue is constructed from breathable fabrics, which also line the sneaker, allowing for comfort with a cushioned fit. A woven adidas Equipment tongue label sits atop the tongue, with an embroidered appearance of Feet You Wear Freddy further down, peeking out from among the rope-style lace set. A mini EQT logo is on the toe area and again on the rear heel. Underfoot, a two-tone black and white FYW sole is joined by purple hits underneath, a nod to Kobe and the Los Angeles Lakers.
The adidas Crazy 8 Low 30 Point Game is set to release on November 1, 2024, at adidas and select retailers in-store and online. Coming in men's sizing, retail is set at $120. He will forever profess that Cricket is better than Baseball and that Rugby League is better then Rugby Union. Among his many hot takes, he believes the adidas ZX range is the pinnacle of sneaker design.
