The second adidas signature sneaker of the late Kobe Bryant continues its revival with a subtle nod to the Los Angeles Lakers. After seeing the Lakers Home and Lakers Away pairs earlier this year, along with Collegiate Purple, this updated take on the Lakers Home envelops the silhouette in Core White Gold Metallic.
Originally named the KB II when launched by Kobe and The Brand With The Three Stripes nearly thirty years back, the model was renamed the Crazy 2 when first reissued six years ago. Here in 2024, we have seen a complete reissue and roll-out of the sneaker, now christened Crazy 98, as a reference to the original year of release. Created when the Feet You Wear boom occurred during the mid to late 90s, the curved edges and appearance of the FYW mascot Freddy on the midsole is a true retro bring-back from a previous generation. adidas created the FYW concept to improve contact between athletes and the playing surface by eliminating right angles, revolutionizing performance footwear, and continuing to influence products across all brands.
The adidas Crazy 98 Core White Gold Metallic arrives with an upper constructed from multiple layers of core white and off-white leather, tumbled and cracked, giving off a textured aesthetic. Gold Metallic accents highlight the lace set and eyelets, with FYW Freddy and EQT branding on the tongue and a bold EQT logo adorning the sidewall. Reflective 3M detailing runs from front to back along the upper and lower edges. White Three Stripes branding against a Laker's purple backdrop is partially secreted and encased in the midfoot bubble. The Feet You Wear adiPRENE+ midsole is finished in off white with a built-in Torsion system and an off-white and grey rubber outsole underfoot.
The adidas Crazy 98 Core White Gold Metallic is set to release on November 1, 2024, at adidas and select retailers in-store and online. Coming in men's sizing, retail is set at $150.
