While Kobe Bryant is predominantly remembered as a Nike athlete, the Black Mamba began his footwear journey with adidas during his rookie season. It remained with the brand until his sneaker free agent year in 2002. Recently, adidas revived one of Bryant's earliest silhouettes, the KB8 2—now rebranded as the Crazy 98—in its Lakers Away colorway. adidas is set to release the inverse Lakers Home rendition, bringing another iconic colorway back to the market.
One of the original colorways for the renamed model, the adidas Crazy 98 Lakers Home features a predominantly white upper constructed from a mix of mesh, nylon, TPU, and leather for a balanced blend of comfort and durability. White leather accents are found on the mudguard, eyestays, and midfoot panels, while the mesh is used on the toe and collar for breathability. The midfoot showcases a semi-translucent material, revealing the Three Stripes logo made from purple and black nylon, which seamlessly connects to the white laces on the tongue. Additional purple accents appear on the tongue tag, and adidas' Equipment logo in volt is prominently displayed on the heel. Underfoot, a white adiPRENE+ foam midsole ensures cushioning and support, paired with a black and white rubber outsole for traction and stability.
The adidas Crazy 98 Lakers Home will release in June 2024 through adidas and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $150.
