Since its inception, the Air Jordan 1 has transitioned from a groundbreaking basketball shoe to an emblem of streetwear and cultural identity. Among its many variations, the Air Jordan 1 Mid has carved out its niche, offering a mix of accessibility and a broad spectrum of colorways that appeal to a wide audience.
Despite debates among enthusiasts regarding its place within the Air Jordan lineage, the Mid version continues to be a playground for creativity and storytelling for Jordan Brand, as seen with pairs like the Paris YMCA. This tradition is upheld as we approach Summer 2024 with the introduction of the Air Jordan 1 Mid SE Flight Vintage, a design that pays homage to Michael Jordan’s rich legacy both on and off the court.
The Air Jordan 1 Mid SE Flight Vintage is set against a backdrop of nostalgia, drawing inspiration from Jordan's black cat nickname and a brief foray into baseball. The sneaker adopts a color scheme reminiscent of the New York Knicks, featuring a tasteful blend of white, orange, black, and blue, showcasing a deliberately faded orange across the mudguard, eyestays, heel, and collar overlay. Unique to this iteration is the Jordan Flight tag on the tongue, adorned with a cat illustration—a subtle tribute to Michael Jordan's black cat nickname.
This motif is mirrored on the right insole, adding a personal touch to the design. Accents of blue on the stitching, sockliner, and tongue lining complement the primary colorway, while a coconut milk-hued midsole with blue accent stitching lends an aged look to the sneaker. The blue rubber outsole nods to Jordan's baseball days, detailed with a hint of bubblegum pink, completing the theme with a playful yet poignant reminder of his athletic versatility.
The Air Jordan 1 Mid SE Flight Vintage will release in Summer 2024 through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the sneaker is priced at $135.
