This program offers young creatives the chance to collaborate with Jordan’s top designers, bringing their visions to life on iconic sneakers. This latest release pays tribute to the unsung heroes of New York City—the MTA crews who keep the subway running smoothly daily.
The Air Jordan 1 Mid Wings NYC Subway is a thoughtful homage to New York City's subway system, designed by students who've channeled their creativity into a sneaker that speaks volumes about urban life and movement. The shoe features a greyscale suede and leather upper, punctuated with black accents on the tongue, lace set, and collar, reflecting the gritty aesthetic of the city's subways. The tongue boasts a subway map-inspired Nike logo, while the AIR text mimics the symbols used to designate different subway lines, cleverly spelling out WINGS across the sneaker's heel with the same design. Other intricate details, like the tag on the collar that reads Do not lean on doors and the 3M reflective elements on the tongue tag and Swoosh, enhance the thematic depth of the design.
Additionally, the insole features a subway system map, and the tongue tag's reverse includes a heartfelt thank you for all you do message to MTA workers. The design is completed with a white midsole sprinkled with multi-color details and a multi-color Jumpman hangtag that mirrors the colorful lines of a subway map. The special packaging further embraces the theme with Jordan Wings branding and a subway map-inspired graphic, while the inner wrapping features various NYC subway banners.
The Air Jordan 1 Mid Wings NYC Subway GS will release May 14, 2024, through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Available in grade school, preschool, and toddler sizes, the retail price is set at $120 (GS), $80 (PS), and $65 (TD).
