Asics Honors Ayrton Senna With Two Gel-Kayano 14 Colorways

Formula One fans know how impactful Ayrton Senna, the Brazilian driver for McLaren who passed away during the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix, was to the sport. His tragic passing helped spark reform in driver safety within Formula One, and his legacy has continued to live on even 30 years removed from the accident. Just after Netflix’s mini-series based on Senna’s life hit the streaming service, Asics announced a collection of Gel-Kayano 14 colorways that will help honor the Brazilian driver.

Starting with the McLaren-inspired pair, we see a direct translation of the cars driven by Senna during his two championship wins, the McLaren MP4/4 (1988) and McLaren MP4/5 (1990), as the black, white, and red color scheme of the two cars is present. Japanese characters are on the lateral heel, translating to Ayrton Senna, while an S logo is placed on the heel tab instead of the usual Asics logo. Inside, the insole features Senna branding on the left pair and an Asics logo on the right.

The second pair in the collection takes on a black and gold color scheme with a hint of Brazilian flair through the attached green, navy, and yellow tag that honors the nation’s flag and Senna’s helmet. Inspiration for the color scheme is also taken from another iconic F1 car driven by Senna, the Lotus 98T from 1986. Black makes up most of the sneaker, including the mesh base and leather overlays, while the black tiger stripes come lined in metallic gold.

The Senna x Asics Gel-Kayano 14 Collection will release exclusively in Brazil on December 9, 2024, while a global launch via Asics will take place on December 10.
