Devin Booker, the Phoenix Suns’ star player, has been a Nike-affiliated athlete for years. Consistently rocking Kobe Bryant's signature sneakers on the court and helping debut the Nike Zoom GT Cut 2, D Book is now working with Converse (owned by Nike Inc.) on a clean, minimalistic take on the iconic Chuck Taylor 70.
“Clean, classic, and timeless. The Chuck 70 is part of my uniform, I put all that together into the design,” said Devin Booker regarding his first collaborative effort on the iconic Converse Chuck Taylor 70. This “clean, classic, and timeless” motif is adequately executed as the entire canvas upper of the model comes in a tonal cream shade with metallic silver accents landing on the eyestays and midfoot’s two divots. Tonal stitching details keep things monochromatic, as does the lace and tongue, while the All-Star logo near the collar gets embroidered in a tonal cream hue. Things remain monochromatic as you look into the sneaker's interior, although you spot a vintage Chuck Taylor tag in red on the reverse of the right sneaker’s tongue. Underfoot, the standard Chuck Taylor midsole is present, with the heel getting an Arizona license plate-inspired makeover. This shines through on the branding placed on the back of the heel, as it resembles a classic car license plate you’d find in Arizona. Rounding out the look is the gum rubber outsole below.
The Devin Booker x Converse Chuck Taylor 70 will be released on April 12th, 2023, through Converse and select retailers online and in-store. Releasing in unisex sizing, the retail price is set at $95.
