The Extra Butter x Puma Clyde NYC Celebrates the Model's 50th Birthday
Updated on •PublishedThe Puma Clyde has been a popular choice among sneaker enthusiasts for five decades. From the basketball courts in the '70s to the hip-hop scene in the '80s through to today's streetwear culture, the Clyde's influence spans generations. As the silhouette turns 50 this year, Puma has celebrated the anniversary with collaborators including Extra Butter. After teaming up with the NYC Jewish deli Russ & Daughters for a take on the Clyde, EB is taking inspiration from New York City for another version of the model.
As a tribute to the silhouette's New York City roots, Extra Butter incorporates the city in several graphics. Premium leather and suede help construct the upper in neutral shades. Along the midfoot, the Puma Formstrip logo gets, as Extra Butter describes, “City worn.” Just above the redesigned logo is the standard Puma Clyde branding, while the sole unit below sits “NYC” in a font similar to what you’d find on the subway. More nods to the city are embossed onto the tongue, stitched to the inside of the tongue, and stamped onto the insole. Rounding out the look is the feather grey midsole and outsole.
The Extra Butter x Puma Clyde NYC will release June 3 exclusively via an online raffle through Extra Butter. Releasing in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $110.
