Taking the fashion world by storm in the early 2020s, GALLERY DEPARTMENT has masterfully fused vintage clothing pieces with an artistic lens to become one of hip-hop’s and your social media feed’s favorite brands all while remaining true to the ethos of its founder Josue Thomas. Not only did the brand's rise coincide with the infatuation of archival pieces in the fashion industry, but once again the brand's ethos sets it apart from your typical luxury fashion house as Thomas thoughtfully showcases behind-the-scenes of the brand constantly through his own Instagram page. That is where he teased the label's first foray into the footwear industry with Vans on the Old Skool silhouette.
Being dubbed “Good Luck,” the classic low-top skate sneaker comes pre-distressed and almost appears to be bespoke thanks to its upper which contains black/white graphics looking like fused newspaper clippings full of ads, headlines, and more. Classic details found on the Old Skool remain as the toebox and heel come dressed in black suede, however, the famous Vans Jazz Stripe comes in a chenille-like material while maintaining its usual red appearance. Contrasting the white leather eyestays, a set of yellow laces with the phrase “Good Luck!” obviously nod to the title of the colorway Josue shared with us in his caption. Underfoot, a scuffed-up vulcanized rubber midsole comes with the brand’s “GALLERY DEPT.” logo stamped in a flipped format.
The GALLERY DEPARTMENT x Vans Old Skool Good Luck will release in-store at GALLERY DEPT's Miami and LA locations on May 12, online through the retailer on May 13, and a wider release through Vans and select retailers on May 19, 2023. Releasing in unisex sizing, the retail price is set at $150.
