New Balance is coming off a stellar 2023 as the Boston-based footwear label has announced a remarkable 23% increase in sales, reaching a milestone of $6.5 billion last year. The success can be partially attributed to the popularity of mesh-based runners, particularly the 1906R model, which has become a mainstay in the wardrobes of sneakerheads. Building on this momentum, New Balance is set to introduce a new variant to its lineup, the 1906L, a loafer version of the sneaker that debuted as part of Junya Watanabe’s latest fashion show.
The New Balance 1906L Kelly Green reimagines the classic runner as a loafer, maintaining the original's distinctive triangular-shaped overlays around the toe and midfoot and the lattice TPU heel counter that has become synonymous with the model. This inline variant stands out with its vibrant kelly green colorway, infusing the shoe with a lively and fresh aesthetic perfect for the summer season. Enhancements include leather across the tongue for a snug fit and easy on-and-off wearability, alongside the 1906L branding on the heel that distinguishes it from its predecessors. The silhouette is grounded by a tonal foam midsole borrowed from the 860v2, ensuring superior comfort and stability. At the same time, a black rubber outsole provides durability and traction, making it a versatile addition to any wardrobe.
The New Balance 1906L Kelly Green will release in Summer 2024 through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. As of this writing, the retail price has yet to be announced.
