While 2022 might have been the year of the 2002R, 2023 sure looks like it’s gearing up to be the year of the 1906R. A retro-styled silhouette that was brought back earlier this year by Akio Hasegawa’s thisisneverthat label, it looks like it’s about to get the rugged treatment with the release of the New Balance 1906R Cordura "Olive."
A part the upcoming “Cordura Pack,” this 1906R is painted in a tonal “Olive” hue. While Cordura fabrics are usually found on outerwear pieces and backpacks, adding this material to a sneaker gives it water-resistant properties that are perfect for the wetter months ahead. Building on top of a ballistic mesh base, leather and TPU panels are stitched across the upper just like the original 1906 from 2010 of which this is based off. NLOCK detailing can be found on the italicized “N” logo, while ABZORB and N-ERGY technologies combine at the midsole for the perfect balance of comfort and cushioning. Just so everyone knows that this shoe was made in partnership with Cordura, a tag is finely stitched onto the lateral heel, finalizing the vintage aesthetic.
