New Balance's commitment to revisiting and reinventing classics from their extensive archives has always captivated sneakerheads. The 1906R, a silhouette that channels the essence of 2010-era runners, is a testament to this commitment. With memorable collaborations, such as the one with AURALEE, the 1906R continues to evolve and is now expanding its offerings under the iconic Protection Pack. More formally known as the Refined Future Pack, it began on the 2002R and previously appeared on multiple 1906R colorways. Two fresh iterations, Metallic Silver and Navy, will drop under this Protection Pack banner to cap the year.
Abandoning the traditional material mix found on Protection Pack colorways, both variants of the 1906R opt for an all-leather ensemble on the overlays. The Metallic Silver option is dominated by a shiny, distressed overlay, which has been artfully worn away, harmonizing perfectly with the grey mesh underlay. Subtle inclusions of the metallic hue on the heel's TPU reinforcement amplify its appeal, while a mix of white and grey graces the sole unit. The Navy variant, on the other hand, is a deep dive into shades of blue. The dark navy leather overlays contrast beautifully with an almost black navy mesh base. A special mention goes to the "N" logo, integrated into the NLock system. This nifty feature provides enhanced foot security courtesy of additional midfoot tie-downs. Interestingly, the lateral heel showcases the "1906D" branding, a slight departure from the familiar "1906R". The Navy variant boasts a matching tonal midsole and outsole, completing the design.
The New Balance 1906R Protection Pack Silver and Navy will release in 2023 through New Balance and select retailers both online and in-store.
