Retro basketball sneakers, specifically from the 90s, have been the bread and butter for Nike over the last few years with the Beaverton-based sportswear giant reintroducing models that have been shelved for quite some. This trend has always been there, though 2022 and beyond have seen Penny Hardaway’s signature series of sneakers make a triumphant return both through collaborative efforts and inline release. For its latest rendition, the Nike Air Penny 2 is taking on an “EMB” theme that has been seen on various basketball-based models from The Swoosh.
Unlike other sneakers in this series, the Nike Air Penny 2 “EMB” takes on tonal whites and greys throughout its wavy-like upper and comes accented by black and silver hits throughout. Grey suede starts around the toecap and runs across the upper while coming separated from the foam below and white leather above by a black line. This dark shade also comes placed along the two-tone grey and black tongue, on the lace set, and on the branding window atop the tongue. Silver hits shine through on the pull tabs and via the Penny logo along the lateral side of the collar. The colorway comes rounded out by a white Air Penny 2 midsole paired with a semi-translucent clear rubber outsole that features black traction pods on the toe and heel.
The Nike Air Penny 2 EMB is set to release Summer 2023 through Nike and select NSW retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $210.
