It seems that almost every year Nike brings back an archival silhouette that hasn’t seen a retro in quite some time. While we have to wait until next year to receive the Nike Dunk Mid, 2022 saw Social Status help revive Penny Hardaway’s signature silhouettes with The Swoosh, the Air Penny 1 and Air Penny 2. Continuing the revival of the latter of the two models, the Nike Air Penny 2 has just appeared in a “Faded Spruce” colorway.
Oozing 90s basketball vibes, the silhouette comes primarily in a black/white makeup with the titular faded spruce appearing on the wavy leather overlay wrapping from the toe back around the heel. Just above this overlay sits black nubuck, coming with tonal stitching details as well as a bronze-shaded tongue tag logo and eyestays. Keeping the dark theme, the mesh tongue comes in all-black while the nylon pull tab on top and back on the heel gets dressed in faded spruce. Working along towards the collar, a grey leather patch hosts a white Nike Swoosh embroidery with bronze piping on the edges of the thread. Penny’s logo makes its final appearance on the black nubuck heel overlay and comes in the same color combo as the aforementioned Swoosh detail while the entire design is finished off with a white foam midsole featuring an exposed Air unit and a black rubber outsole.
The Nike Air Penny 2 Faded Spruce is set to release on January 20th, 2023 through Nike and select NSW retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $200.
