Kevin Durant's journey with Nike has been marked by a series of memorable and emotionally resonant releases, and the KD 16 is no exception. We’ve seen the silhouette take part in the annual Aunt Pearl treatment, honoring Durant’s Aunt, who passed away from breast cancer. Adding to the familial homages is the B.A.D. colorway, a heartfelt tribute to Durant's grandmother, Barbara A. Davis, who passed away in February 2022. This tribute first appeared with the KD 15 and is set to continue as a recurring theme in Durant's signature line, now emerging on the KD 16. Durant's mother was honored with the KD 16 Ms. Wanda alongside these tributes to matriarchal figures.
The Nike KD 16 B.A.D. is a commemoration and a celebration of Barbara A. Davis's legacy, as reflected in the sneaker's design. The colorway retains the original's purple theme, a color often associated with royalty and dignity. The sneaker features lighter shades of purple on the mudguard, midfoot, and across the mesh base, creating a subtle and elegant contrast. Darker purple hues are used for the vamp, eyestays, tongue, lace set, and sockliner, adding depth and richness to the design.
The right tongue of the sneaker proudly displays KD branding, while the left tongue is adorned with 'B.A.D.,' a direct nod to Durant's grandmother. This personal touch extends to the insole, where the acronym is repeated, reinforcing the sneaker's tribute aspect. Completing the design is a purple foam midsole paired with a matching rubber outsole, ensuring that the sneaker is as functional and comfortable as it is meaningful.
The Nike KD 16 B.A.D. will release on December 1, 2023 through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $160.
