Kevin Durant's signature sneaker line with Nike has long been a platform for honoring his late Aunt Pearl, who passed away from lung cancer when Durant was just 11 years old. This tribute began with the KD 4 in 2012, marking the start of a deeply personal tradition that has seen every subsequent KD model receive an Aunt Pearl rendition. The tradition continues into Holiday 2024, with the Nike KD 17 receiving the heartfelt Aunt Pearl treatment. This release comes alongside the first retro of the KD 4 Aunt Pearl.
The Nike KD 17 Aunt Pearl is a sneaker that wears its story proudly. The entire upper is draped in soft pink hues, a signature of the Aunt Pearl series. The usual mesh and TPU construction of the KD 17 is replaced with a luxurious felt suede material, giving the sneaker a premium and thoughtful touch. Floral embroidery graces the tongue and heel, adding layers of detail that celebrate Aunt Pearl's memory. The KD branding on the tongue is rendered iridescent pink, adding a subtle yet striking visual.
A bright pink Swoosh adorns the midfoot, perfectly matching the intricate embroidery on the heel, where AP for Aunt Pearl is embroidered on the left shoe and KD for Kevin Durant on the right. Inside, the sneaker features Aunt Pearl and Kay Yow branding, continuing the collaboration with the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, which has been a part of the Aunt Pearl series since its inception. The tonal pink theme extends underfoot with a pink foam midsole paired with a pink rubber outsole, ensuring the shoe is as functional on the court as it is meaningful off it.
The Nike KD 17 Aunt Pearl will release on November 22, 2024, through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $160.
