Air cushioning and Nike are as synonymous as peanut butter and jelly, a perfect pairing that has endured for decades. Innovations from Nike’s Air Max line are something the entire footwear industry looks forward to on a yearly basis, with 2024 seeing the introduction of the Dynamic Air unit in the Air Max DN. Now, ahead of Air Max Day celebrations, Nike has officially unveiled the next step forward in its Air Max series — the Air Max DN8.

Previews of early pairs have been online for months, coming via on-foot shots from those associated with Nike, early retailer leaks, and even official imagery. These early looks include colors like the White Black, Tan Sail Black, Black Bright Crimson, and even a collaboration with Steven Victor’s Victor Victor label. However, we now have a full tech breakdown and release information for the sneaker.

Unlike its predecessor, the Air Max DN, the DN8 extends the Dynamic Air across the length of the sole unit, adding four more tubes of Air to the front half of the silhouette. The Dynamic Air unit works by having air freely flowing between the chambers, each with a different psi. The front two tubes on the forefoot have 15 psi, and the back two have 5 psi, mirroring the rear’s Air unit (5 psi in the front two and 15 psi in the back).

“For the DN8, we wanted to be lower to the ground. We wanted to feel more Air. We wanted to improve transition,” says Jonathan Kosenick, Lead Designer, Men’s Sportswear. “All of those goals led us to design the shoe with eight Air chambers directly in contact with the ground, which allows the chambers to more effectively compress and be way more flexible, delivering a much bouncier, springier sensation that channels a Nike performance footwear approach into a shoe you want to wear every day.”

“When designing the DN8, we kept thinking about what makes some of our favorite classic Air Max models so great: that you can put them on and go, and no matter what happens over the course of the day, that shoe is not only going to succeed, it’s going to exceed expectations,” Kosenick says. “We wanted to build a shoe that had the same sort of, ‘go anywhere, do anything’ character — an impulsivity, a versatility that will perform under any circumstance by harnessing the capabilities of Dynamic Air.”

To kickstart the Air Max DN8, Nike will release the Hyper Pink colorway on February 6, 2025, through the Nike SNKRS App. A red-based colorway is slated to release on March 6, 2025, with more renditions landing throughout the month of March and, of course, on Air Max Day. The retail price of the sneaker is set at $190. Download the Sole Retriever mobile app to stay updated on the latest releases, raffles, news, and more in the sneaker and streetwear world.
