Thanks to its strategic collaborations with Nike, Social Status has built an impressive rapport with sneakerheads. With the retailer being so valuable to The Swoosh, it only made sense the James Whitner-led storefront would be tapped to help revive John McEnroe’s Nike Mac Attack. While we got first looks at the entire collaborative collection thanks to PJ Tucker, Social Status recently launched the “Silver Linings” colorway and is following this with the “Social Currency” rendition.
Social Status's signature style is evident in every design nuance of this iteration of the Mac Attack. The upper beautifully combines cracked suede in an ivory finish and an equally captivating ivory-shaded mesh. This light aesthetic gets a twist with creamy lace highlights and tongue tags that burst with campfire orange — a hue that covers both the Social Status and Nike branding. The packaging also includes additional lace options in vibrant orange and subdued creamy tones. The design reaches its pinnacle with the intriguing peel-away feature; pine green portions on the Swoosh, collar, and heel overlay can be peeled back to unveil a bright orange layer underneath. This is all complemented by the reliable Mac Attack midsole in an aged white finish and a gum rubber outsole. Not to be overlooked, the sneaker is housed in a specially designed co-branded box wrapped in newspaper print, with the outside flaunting storefront graphics.
The Social Status x Nike Mac Attack Social Currency will release on August 25, 2023, exclusively via The Whitaker Group (TWG) storefronts online and in-store. Like recent offerings from TWG, in-store entries can boost your chances of winning. For a full rundown of the release process, check here. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price stands at $140.
