The footwear industry always prepares for Halloween celebrations, but multiple brands also launch collections around the Mexican holiday of Día de Muertos. Timberland has given its 6-Inch Waterproof Boot a makeover for this traditional Mexican holiday.
Timberland tasked associate designer Dimitri Fonti with creating the colorway, with Fonti stating, “The inspiration for the Día de Muertos boot came from my experience starting as a footwear design apprentice at Timberland nearly 2 years ago. When I first started, I was struck by the incredible people here—much like my own family in Mazatlán, Mexico — they are supportive, openhearted, and always encouraging of my ideas. I wanted this boot to exude a sense of community and inclusivity, while also sharing my culture. My hope is that someone, somewhere, will see this boot and feel a connection to it, just as I do with our brand.”
The boot comes covered in a dark purple waterproof nubuck material, with Timberland’s logo landing on the lateral heel. Embossed patterns inspired by the Mexican holiday are found across the top half of the upper, with these details also getting a glow-in-the-dark finish. Other details, like the sugar skulls, flowers, and butterflies, tie together the Día de Muertos theme. These land on the eyelets, which take on a multi-color floral appearance, and the top eyelet and tongue tag, which come with skull details. A custom Día de Muertos-branded insole, purple iridescent midsole, and black rubber outsole complete the look.
The Timberland 6-Inch Waterproof Boot Día de Muertos was released on October 1, 2024, through Timberland online and is currently available to purchase.
