Australian sneaker boutique Up There consistently delivers when it comes to collaborative endeavors in the industry. Notable success has come from previous releases with New Balance - the 2002R Backyard Legend and its sequel. As we move into the latter half of 2023, Up There shifts its focus eastward to Japan, partnering with Asics to reimagine the revered Gel-Lyte III silhouette. Drawing inspiration from the enchanting sounds of the Australian wilderness, the duo have embodied the essence of the Kookaburra, a bird native to Australia, known for its distinctive laugh-like call.
The collaborative Gel-Lyte III is a harmonious blend of nature and craftsmanship. The color palette, reminiscent of the Kookaburra, showcases a delicate balance of creamy white, earthy browns, and refreshing blues. The Asics tiger stripe, a brand hallmark, and outsole sections flaunt the striking blue, evoking the bird's vibrant plumage. This sneaker's upper, made from breathable mesh and supple leather, predominantly sports a cream hue. Contrasting this is the brown suede, tastefully applied to the overlays near the collar and heel. The medial side embraces the earthy aesthetic with brown Asics tiger stripes and mesh. A nod to the collaboration's muse, the insole features a detailed depiction of the Kookaburra, accompanied by the Asics and Up There branding. Completing the design, the midsole blends cream, white, and blue hues, which elegantly sit atop a contrasting black and blue rubber outsole.
The Up There x Asics Gel-Lyte III Kookaburra will release October 27, 2023, via Up There online and in-store and then on November 4, 2023, via Asics and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $150.
