The Vans Skate Old Skool 36+ Debuts January 2025

Dating back to 1977, the Vans Style 36, more commonly referred to as the Old Skool, was just the second skate shoe Vans ever made and was the first to feature the jazz side stripe. It has since become synonymous with the footwear brand as the model is in the rotation of millions worldwide and is a staple on the shelves of skate and shoe stores. However, Vans wants to revitalize the model with a modern-day upgrade by introducing the Vans Skate Old Skool 36+.
Earlier this month, the model debuted through a collaboration with Carpet Company, who launched a pair limited to just 1,977, a nod to the year the Style 36 first hit shelves. While most struck out on this snakeskin-laden version, Vans will introduce GR colorways of the retooled model, including an Antique White, Navy Red, Dark Green, and the classic Black White. One of the first noticeable upgrades is the padded tongue and shorter toe cap, providing extra comfort, protection, and durability to the sneaker.

Paneling remains nearly identical to the original, though we see some upgrades in added pull tabs on the tongue and heel and a ballistic mesh base. Vans’ DURACAP tech helps reinforce high-wear areas on the upper, while the POPCUSH insole helps with impact protection and provides optimal cushioning for intense skate sessions. Finally, the vulcanized rubber midsole has a grippy SICKSTICK gum rubber outsole with a waffle pattern.
The first four colorways of the Vans Skate Old Skool 36+ will release on January 30, 2025, through Vans and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is $80.
