In 2019, Ben Nethongkome returned for his third time as the leading designer on the Kyrie 6 (VI). Nethongkome and Irving wanted to create a ‘90s-themed silhouette that modern athletes could take on court. The Kyrie 6 had a redesigned traction pattern and brought back the midfoot strap. Introduced in 2019, the Nike Kyrie 6 represented a perfect blend of the past and the future. The shoe maintained the series’ emphasis on court feel and control, while incorporating elements from earlier models and taking cues from Kyrie Irving's off-court interests.
Retaining the articulated Nike Air Zoom Turbo unit from the Kyrie 5, the Kyrie 6 improved upon it with a plush foam, or "Jet Pack" padding in the collar for extra ankle support. The shoe also reintroduced the midfoot strap from the Kyrie 2 for enhanced lockdown.
