Fellow Japanese brand atmos Tokyo has already teamed up with Asics four times in 2024. The first was the duo’s grey and purple Gel-Kayano 14, followed by the GT-2160 inspired by the summer Olympics. For the final two drops that have hit shelves, we saw the retailer partner with Lagua Gem for a Blue Topaz Gel-NYC and launch the fungus-inspired glow-in-the-dark Gel-Kayano 14. Now, wrapping up a stellar year of atmos x Asics projects is a new take on the GT-2160.
Dubbed Tapetum, which itself is the reflective layer found on the eyeballs of animals like cats, the teaser image showcases what looks to be a black-and-white GT-2160. The black mesh acts as the base, with more black details found on the paneling near the toe and parts of the Asics tiger stripes on the midfoot. Reflective details run amok, taking over the white portions of the overlays and leaning into the tapetum theme, with more 3M pops on the lace set. Inside, the insole features a camo-like pattern alongside the standard Asics GT-2160 logos. Finishing the design is a black foam midsole with a tonal rubber outsole.
The atmos Tokyo x Asics GT-2160 Tapetum will release in December 2024 through atmos Tokyo online and in-store. As of now, the retail price has yet to be announced.
