Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny has been one of adidas’ most consistent collaborators over the last half-decade, bringing hype and energy to models like the Forum Low, Campus, and, more recently, with the Gazelle Indoor. Typically, Benito sticks to one silhouette for a few releases before introducing new versions of classic adidas models. This practice rings true again, as after two colors of his take on the Gazelle Indoor, Bad Bunny is reworking the SL 72 silhouette.
Debuted by Olympic gold medalist and adidas athlete Noah Lyles during F1’s Las Vegas Grand Prix, Bad Bunny’s Adizero SL 72 retools the archival ‘70s model with updated cushioning. A waffle mesh panel runs from the toe along the edge of the midfoot and back to the heel, separated from the corduroy heel by a textured leather overlay. Suede details take shape on the eyestays and toebox, while the base below comes in a leather finish.
The material choice for each of these mashed-up panels is directly inspired by the original materials of both the SL 72 and Adizero series. Alongside reworking the material makeup and paneling, Benito adds his name to the midfoot with “para Bad Bunny” in a blue hue. However, his signature double-tongue construction is removed, and blue stitching is added across the top of the textured leather tongue.
Dual adidas logos on the heel, Three Stripes on the midfoot, and adidas text on the insole complete the branding feature. Finishing the design is an Adizero foam midsole and a rubber outsole.
The Bad Bunny x adidas Adizero SL 72 will debut in December 2024 through adidas, Bad Bunny’s website, and select retailers online and in-store. For its first release, expect to see three colorways: the pictured Off White, Maroon, and Blue. As of now, pricing information has yet to be announced.
