Metro Boomin has made headlines over the last few months, not only for the two collab albums he made with Future, WE DON'T TRUST YOU, and WE STILL DON'T TRUST YOU, but for facilitating the recent rap civil war that has titans of the industry going against one another. With the rap game and celebrities choosing sides, Kevin Durant may be Team Metro and Future, as Durant's latest signature sneaker with Nike, the KD 17, has appeared in a collaborative colorway with Metro Boomin. Alongside this pair, Bink! and The Alchemist each get their own KD 17 as part of the Producer Pack.
Metro Boomin’s take on the Nike KD 17 takes on a visually striking design inspired by a storm's intensity. The sneaker features a purple haze mesh base adorned with dynamic lightning bolt graphics, embodying the energy and creativity Metro is known for. A clear, wavy TPU overlay nods to the Air Max Plus, enhancing the visual impact while showcasing the underlying graphics. Personal touches include a tongue tag depicting the silhouette from Metro's NOT ALL HEROES WEAR CAPES album and a heart graphic on the heel tab echoing his album merch. Inside, the tongue bears the embroidered name Leland Wayne, Metro’s real name. Wayne also includes dedications to his mother, who passed away in 2022, through her signature on the left heel and her initials on the lateral side of the left sneaker. Underfoot sits a black midsole and a semi-translucent rubber outsole.
The Metro Boomin x Nike KD 17 will release June 14, 2024, through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the sneaker is priced at $160.
