Within footwear, the heavy hitters such as adidas and Nike dabble from time to time in the world of experimental footwear, often sticking to their classic designs to power their brands forward. One footwear design collective however is pushing the boundaries of design off a cliff, RAL7000STUDIO. Collaborating with brands across the board, they announced last year their contribution to the experimental adidas ZX Mutant, a futuristic and genetically modified take on the ZX 2K Boost. Now after over 12 months, the RAL7000STUDIO x adidas ZX Mutant is gearing up for an exclusive launch.
The silhouette comes with an internal neoprene bootie surrounded by an XL Extralight foam exoskeleton. Showcased on their Instagram is multiple monochromatic colorways in shades of white, black, and grey, though in the past more colorful options have been shown. Staying laceless, the neoprene internals feature a pull tab on top, with branding of both brands present, as well as a solo branded adidas insole. For the foam exoskeleton, a mix of textured and smooth foam gets sculpted with various cutouts all throughout. On the heel, “RAL7000STUDIOS” and “XL Extralight” text comes raised. Rounding out the look is the foam outsole and it’s branding features on the heel and midfoot.
The RAL7000STUDIO x adidas ZX Mutant is set to release through a “launch giveaway” limited to 50 pairs on June 6th, 2022. Full details in regards to the giveaway will be announced on RAL7000STUDIO’s Instagram page. For updates regarding this experimental take on the adidas ZX and more,
