New Balance’s 991 is an iconic silhouette that debuted over two decades ago, becoming a staple within the brand’s heritage line. In October 2023, New Balance introduced the 991v2, updating the classic model for the first time since its original release. This refreshed version has appeared in several colorways, with collaborations like the upcoming Kith release creating buzz. Before Ronnie Fieg’s take on the model hits the market, images of the latest inline release — Pinecone — have emerged.
The New Balance 991v2 Made in UK Pinecone edition features a sophisticated blend of materials that highlight the craftsmanship synonymous with New Balance’s Flimby, UK factory. Pigskin suede dominates the mudguard, midfoot, collar, and heel, all coated in deep brown hues that mirror the natural tones of pinecones. The mesh base layer lightens things with a softer brown shade, creating subtle contrast against the silver-grey leather overlays on the toebox, tongue tag, and heel tab. Signature New Balance N branding on the midfoot is rendered in silver, complementing the 991 text in black, surrounded by silver on the lateral heel. A cream and white FuelCell-cushioned midsole provides comfort while maintaining the sneaker’s classic aesthetic, and a black rubber outsole ensures durability and traction.
The New Balance 991v2 Made in UK Pinecone will release in 2024 through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $250.
